Honorable Mentions
Make sure to check these out underrated titles.  They are worth your time.

Kids Corner
Clearly this was a great year for kids movies. There were several worth seeing - and 3 that made it into the Top 10.

Top 10

#10 Despicable Me  PG
This was a great year for kids movies.  I went to 5 in all with my 9 and 6 year old and every time it was a success.  This movie was original and very funny.  Great take on a villain trying to outdo another villain.

#9 How to Train Your Dragon  PG
Call this Avatar for kids.  One of the few movies worth seeing in 3D.  The story was creative and the animation flying sequences were amazing.  In addition, it is a great coming of age tale for young boys.

#8  Hereafter  PG-13
Not many critics liked this movie and not many people saw it.  I loved it.  Clint Eastwood continues to impress by tackling complicated subject matter.  The movie is slow – as it should be. This is a great movie about our connections our loved ones after they are lost from our lives.

#7 Inception  PG-13

Like everyone else, I am not sure what this movie was really about, but that didn’t stop me from enjoying the amazing visual effects and creative storytelling and direction of Christopher Nolan.

#6 The Fighter  R  This movie should really be called The Fighter’s Brother as  Christian Bale delivers the strongest performance as a crack-addicted former boxer training his younger brother for a boxing title. Just give him the Supporting Actor Oscar right now.

#5  The Social Network  PG-13
David Fincher’s direction, Aaron Sorkin’s writing, and the acting by the entire cast make this one of the best movies of the year.

#4  True Grit  PG-13

I am not usually a fan of the Coen brothers.  This was definitely an exception.  The movie is excellent in every aspect - writing, directing, and acting.  A throw back to god old story telling without heavy handedness.  Definitely could be a best picture contender.

#3  Toy Story 3  PG
I was very skeptical that a movie about toys in a daycare could live up to the status of the first two Toy Story movies.  I couldn't have been more wrong.  What a great end to one of the best movie trilogies ever.  The last scene between Andy and his toys may have been one of the most touching scenes of the year.

#2  127 Hours  R
In any other year, this movie would have been captured the top spot.  Every time Danny Boyle makes a movie, it somehow makes this list.  This move impacted me on a personal level more than any other this year. James Franco is brilliant in this amazing story of survival.

#1  The Kings Speech  R
Colin Firth delivers a performance that may win him an Oscar.  He plays King George the VI – a man who struggled with a crippling stammer his entire life and was called upon to inspire England during the advent of radio and World War II.  I was very moved by the relationships among these three people. Just a beautiful movie in every way.  A clear choice for the best picture of the year.
